The Sorrows of Young Werther, Erlkönig, Faust: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is quite rightly considered the greatest German poet and thinker. His works are world literature and are still intensively received, discussed and appreciated today. But Goethe was also a natural scientist, which makes him nothing less than a universal genius, who - and this was anything but a matter of course - already enjoyed fame and honor during his lifetime.
