Product informations

“Shikumen” is a midnight blue oversized designer sweater made from soft flannel jersey in 100% wool. The generous shape is defined by an asymmetrically constructed collar, distinctive seam lines, and extra-long sleeves that gather into soft folds at the forearms. Precisely placed lines structure the front and back, giving the wide-cut wool sweater its characteristic architectural expression. The fluid drape of the fabric combines striking proportions with natural comfort.

Midnight Blue Oversized Wool Sweater with an Asymmetrical Collar

“Shikumen” draws its character from the interplay of volume, line, and material. The generously cut body creates space, while the asymmetrical collar frames the neck and shoulder in an unconventional way and reveals a different contour depending on the perspective. A vertical seam on the front creates a clear accent across the expansive surface.

The midnight blue shade gives the flannel jersey visual depth and can appear anywhere from saturated blue to nearly black depending on the light. Seams, folds, and transitions emerge subtly across the surface. The designer sweater works equally well as a standalone statement piece or as part of dark, avant-garde layered looks.

Inspiration: Shikumen – Stone Gateways, Alleyways, and Lilong Life

The name “Shikumen” refers to the characteristic stone-framed gateways of Shanghai’s historic residential architecture. Beyond these clearly defined entrances were the narrow alleyways of the Lilong, lined with closely built row houses and shaped by a lively everyday rhythm between private and communal space.

This relationship between clear boundaries and a dynamic interior is reflected in the design. Precise seams structure the large fabric surfaces, while the soft jersey falls freely between them and responds to the posture of the body. The asymmetrical collar recalls a shifted frame around the neck and shoulder.

“Shikumen” translates the tension between architecture and everyday life into textile form: defined lines meet fluid sections, while clear transitions contrast with soft materiality. The result is an oversized sweater whose restrained design changes subtly through perspective, drape, and fabric texture.

Cut & Silhouette: Generous Volume and Asymmetrical Lines

“Shikumen” is deliberately cut with ample volume. The fabric falls loosely from the shoulders over the body without closely tracing its contours. This gives the flannel jersey enough space to reveal its supple quality and characteristic drape.

On the front, a distinctive vertical seam structures the midnight blue surface. The back continues this construction in a different direction: a clearly visible diagonal seam runs from the upper back toward the asymmetrical hem, dividing the rear view into differently oriented sections. Depending on the viewing angle, this line appears either more pronounced or more subtle.

The extra-long sleeves continue the generous proportions. At the forearms, the fabric gathers into soft folds, creating a contrast with the wide body. The asymmetrical hem extends the shifted line of the design and shapes the sweater’s unconventional overall form.

Asymmetrical Collar: A Fluid Frame for the Neck and Shoulder

The collar is one of the defining elements of “Shikumen.” Its asymmetrical shape frames the neck and shoulder differently and changes with posture and styling. At times it rests wider and softer around the neck; at others, one section rises more prominently and takes on a clearer, almost architectural contour.

The visible seam line continues into the collar, visually connecting the front, neckline, and shoulder. As a result, the collar does not appear as a separate detail but as an integral part of the overall cut.

The soft wool jersey supports this versatility, allowing the collar to appear both defined and fluid. This creates a distinctive feature that gives the midnight blue oversized sweater a different expression from every angle.

Midnight Blue Flannel Jersey in 100% Wool

“Shikumen” is made from flannel jersey in 100% wool. The pure wool fiber has a pleasantly soft and warm feel, combining natural warmth with breathability and temperature-regulating properties.

The finely textured surface gives the midnight blue shade a multidimensional appearance. At the same time, the jersey remains supple and flexible, allowing it to fall loosely while supporting the generous cut.

The fabric has enough substance to define the striking surfaces while remaining soft enough for folds, asymmetrical transitions, and the flexible collar. In this way, the flannel jersey naturally complements the architecturally influenced design of “Shikumen.”

Comfort & Everyday Wear: Soft Wool Jersey with Generous Freedom of Movement

The generous cut and flexible flannel jersey provide plenty of freedom of movement. The sweater sits loosely around the body, while the long sleeves and softly shaped collar provide a pleasantly warm feel.

Worn on its own, the asymmetrical lines and distinctive proportions of “Shikumen” take center stage. The midnight blue wool sweater also works well in layered looks with wide-leg pants, skirts, or long coats. The distinctive collar remains visible and adds a characteristic accent.

For the city, office, studio, gallery, travel, or evening events, “Shikumen” combines avant-garde design language with the warmth and flexibility of high-quality wool jersey.

Styling: Midnight Blue with Black Avant-Garde Silhouettes

The generous proportions of “Shikumen” pair especially well with black pants. The unconventional black “Zephyr” hakama pants echo the volume of the top and continue it through the lower half of the look. Black and midnight blue create a nuanced interplay of dark tones, while contrasting fabric surfaces add further depth.

For a stronger contrast in proportions, combine it with the black “Rotwelsch” designer knickerbocker pants. Their distinctive shape meets the extra-long sleeves and wide body of “Shikumen.” Different wool qualities and contrasting lines turn the combination into a layered avant-garde look.

Paired with the asymmetrical black “Bacchanalia” designer skirt, the sweater’s shifted lines are continued throughout the lower half of the outfit. The pronounced folds of the skirt meet the precisely placed seams and soft drape of “Shikumen.” Midnight blue and black come together in a dark layered look defined by striking proportions and fluid transitions.

Statement boots or understated leather shoes complete all three combinations while keeping the focus on material, cut, and asymmetrical details.

Craftsmanship & Atelier: Handcrafted and Individually Adjustable

“Shikumen” is handcrafted in Slovenia. The careful construction of the soft flannel jersey, precisely placed seams, and asymmetrically shaped collar define the individual character of the design.

Upon request, “Shikumen” can be individually adjusted in our bespoke tailoring atelier in Vienna. Sleeve length, proportions, and fit provide the basis for a personalized adjustment.
