Large, eye-catching hat with wide brim made of burnt wool in black-brown. An unconventional tribute to the desire for adventure.
Italian hatmaker Reinhard Plank named him Leo as in "lion" in Latin, conveying a sense of wilderness and free living. Film classics such as "Beyond Africa" from 1985, which is based on episodes from the life of the Danish writer Karen Blixen and has won numerous awards, come to mind for some.
Hats are often worn by travelers in southern countries: to emphasize individual style, but also because the climate demands it. Leo subtly awakens the longing for adventure: to roam the vast steppes of Africa like Meryl Streep and Robert Redford once did and experience their boundless freedom.
The shimmering heat of Africa subtly reflects Leo, because the large hat with a wide brim was made of pure black wool and burned in places in a special manufacturing process, which gives it its individual coloring. The unique piece has a wide, round brim and has a teardrop-shaped crown. Due to the size of the hat, it convinces with functionality in a wide range of weather conditions.
eigensinnig wien präsentiert: Reinhard Plank, exquisite hats and caps from the Italian manufactury near Florence
Behind the avant-garde hat creations is South Tyrolean-born Reinhard Plank, who studied industrial design at the Angewandte in Vienna and has been putting an unconventional finishing touch on headwear in his studio since 2005. The extraordinary hats are handmade near Florence, making each artifact unique in its own right. One of his most unusual manufacturing processes is burning the wool, which gives each model its own unique coloration. His original collections look playful, minimalist and provocative at the same time. But Plank never loses sight of what is essential: the people for whom he creates. The central question is always how the individual deals with the concept of personal space: does the individual want to remain discreetly in the background or show himself rather extravagantly. Plank's craftsmanship, design and art are oriented to this.
