THE FRUITS OF THE CRISIS: NEW ONLINE STORE, WEBSITE AND MAGAZINE
N E W S
For weeks, our doors were closed. Behind our building’s façade, behind the windows looking out at Vienna’s Sankt-Ulrichs-Platz, it was very quiet for a very long time. We missed the sound of bells when someone entered, we wistfully looked at the unique eigensinnig pieces that had been hanging from the metal rails untouched for much too long; they had to come to terms with their longing, knowing that they would only be seen and acquired sometime in the future, when they would make both their own and their wearers’ eigensinnig character visible.
Now we are open again. And something that many people call the “new normal” is gradually beginning.
We should all be concerned about the future because we will have to spend the rest of our lives there.
CHARLES KETTERINGBut we were not inactive during the time of standstill – on the contrary. We used the idle times to think ourselves into the future, without giving in to the impulse to let ourselves be overrun or overwhelmed by the events. “This orientation towards the future produces a forward temporal pull that may also have accelerating effects,” philosopher Byung-Chul Han writes. Thus we experienced acceleration within the great deceleration, as if ‘vita activa’ had sneaked into ‘vita contemplativa’: Stefanie worked on new designs and experimented with fabrics and cuts, while Toni withdrew into the digital sphere. And that is where something was created that we would like to present to you today: our new website, online store and magazine. The “new normal” is a little more digital than the old one.
WR WE BID YOU WELCOME TO OUR NEW HEISSEN SIE WILLKOMMEN IN UNSEREM DIGITALEN ZU HAUSE
We hope that you feel the same eigensinnig spirit here that you know from our showroom. We regard the website as a virtual extension of our location, as a space where we gather all our precious objects; where ideas, texts, images, unique pieces and artifacts enrich and influence each other, and where we, Stefanie and Toni, also shine through with our personalities. By combining colors, words and images, we tried to recreate the typical eigensinnig atmosphere where many people like to linger, look around and be inspired.
For that is something we learned to do over the last few weeks – lingering in digital worlds, purchasing things online. We internalized the rituals of keeping our distance more quickly than we would have thought. We started appreciating the advantages associated with digitization even more: the possibility of acquiring beautiful things from the comfort of one’s home, of having them conveniently delivered, of receiving advice by email or video chat. The joy at the arrival of a coveted unique piece or artifact on the same day, wrapped in rustling paper.
The two centerpieces of the new website are the online store and the extensive magazine section.
THE ONLINE STORE
Acquiring eigensinnig pieces online is now more intuitive, easier and faster. You can filter by products, colors and brands, look at the unique items and artifacts in detail and find out which thoughts and ideas our own collections are based on. We accept all major credit cards and offer the option to pay via PayPal, instant transfer and Apple Pay.
THE MAGAZINE
There is now much more room for our world of ideas. The new magazine section is subdivided into the areas Essays, where we discuss various topics and our activities at length, News, where you will be informed about newly arrived unique pieces and upcoming events, and Pensées, our experimental text area, formerly called “What Inspires Us” – these are texts which do not follow any clearly defined rules and in which philosophy meets pop culture, depth psychology meets local art. Texts intended to provide impetus and inspire people to think outside the box. Gedankenwelten.
