In the Heart of Vienna, Away from the Bustle
A grand church, a few cafés and restaurants, a handful of benches, cobblestones over which the light moves as though it had all the time in the world. Right in the middle of it all: eigensinnig wien. St. Ulrichsplatz in Vienna’s 7th district, not far from the MuseumsQuartier, is one of those old squares where the Vienna of yesterday has never quite disappeared – leisure, courtesy, a quiet glow. The South as a guest in Vienna – a little quieter, a little darker in dress, and entirely Viennese.

Committed to our own convictions, and to the zeitgeist only when it convinces us: this is how avant-garde fashion takes shape on historic ground. Since 2012, everything here has happened under one roof – designed in the atelier, sewn in our tailoring studio, photographed and filmed in-house, and presented in the Fashion Gallery. What you see downstairs is the finished piece. It came to life one floor above: needles, scissors, the steady rhythm of sewing machines, a hand moving across the fabric to feel whether it holds its shape. It is a quiet insistence that some things should be made rather than produced – and that you can see the difference in a garment.

There is a certain weariness that sets in on the major shopping streets: the same shop windows, the queues outside the luxury boutiques of Vienna’s first district, the feeling of being just one among many, hurried through between two appointments.
We have created a place against that weariness. Our Fashion Gallery is only a 10-minute walk from Vienna’s city centre, yet it exists in a different reality. No queues, no crowds, no rush. Instead of mass-produced fashion: unique pieces and limited editions. Instead of being processed: being seen.

eigensinnig is a Fashion Gallery, flagship store, showroom and atelier in one. Our avant-garde fashion hangs from the soaring ceiling because a garment born from an idea deserves more than a hanger and a price tag.
Beneath the centuries-old vaulted ceiling, the space is continually reimagined and rearranged, because every collection brings its own world and calls for a setting that responds to it. Here, the contradictions that make up a life meet one another: global and local, old and new, warm and cold, masculine and feminine, nature and art. Sometimes, original works of art hang on the walls, always in dialogue with whatever occupies our thoughts at the time. A hidden gem away from the main shopping streets – and at the same time, a place that stays with you long after you leave.

We are not a multi-brand store. We exclusively carry our own label – avant-garde fashion for women and men, predominantly in the non-colour black, a colour that makes no claims and allows for everything.
Our style is exceptional, meticulous in its details and nonconformist: from understated, wearable pieces that accompany you throughout the day to extravagant, sculptural statements. Dark avant-garde, yes – but not Gothic. Architectural, close to art, uncompromising. Clothing for people who do not dress up as someone else, but make a conscious choice.
We work exclusively with natural materials and luxury fabrics from Italy and Japan, selected for their character and longevity. Slow fashion instead of fleeting trends. Clothing designed to endure because it was created with the intention of making something that lasts.

We have an eye for the designer fashion that suits you and will tell you openly when a piece is not right for you. Designer Toni Rotbart-Woldrich often takes the time to personally accompany your style consultation and share his expertise.

If it does not fit, we make it fit. Sleeves or trousers too long, the waist too wide, the jacket too long? Our in-house alteration tailoring takes care of it.
And if you are looking for a one-of-a-kind piece, your unique garment is created in our bespoke tailoring studio one floor above the gallery – either as a fully bespoke creation or as an individual adaptation from the current collection. We also advise and accompany you for special occasions.
