Women’s low-crotch trousers made of lightweight, linen-like ramie. An elegantly raw, obstinate reinterpretation of pleated trousers.
The life of philosopher Leontion in ancient Greece has only been vaguely recorded. What we know is: She was smart, educated and beautiful and started intellectual arguments with powerful men such as Cicero and Theophrastus – something that was extremely courageous and highly unusual at the time. What is suspected of her: a love affair with philosopher Epicurus, whose teachings she always defended in front of others.
Our women’s trousers with a low crotch and ample legroom from our own workshop are dedicated to this courageous philosopher. They are handmadefrom ramie, also called China grass. It is a linen-like fabric obtained from the stem of the ramie plant, a bast fiber. The typical characteristics of this fabric are its subtle, silky sheen – and its great lightness.
These women’s trousers feature a variety of obstinate details:
The inverted pleats: They are turned inward, not outward.
The wide waistband: It can also be worn with wide belts.
The concealed button placket with discreet, natural-looking horn buttons
The ocher yellow seam bindings on the inside of the trousers, which become visible when you roll up the trouser legs
The asymmetrical detail seams on the trouser legs
The two side pockets with the three-line detail.
‘Leontion’ perfectly matches the women’s jacket ‘Voltaire’ and the vest ‘Heller’, which are all made of the same fabric and, when combined with the light trousers, turn into an estival avant-garde ensemble.
eigensinnig wien: Special avant-garde fashion for men and women.
Under our avant-garde fashion label eigensinnig wien we manufacture unique fashion pieces for obstinate characters. We design our collections in an experimental process, enriching them with thoughts and ideas from the fields of philosophy, art and literature or drawing inspiration from philosophy, art and literature. That is why our trousers and jackets, blouses and dresses bear the names of philosophers, literary figures and sociologists. We work with materials from nature, which we like to combine in asymmetrical, avant-garde cuts. Our aesthetic is based on the Japanese wabi-sabi concept: “Pare down to the essence, but don’t remove the poetry.”
